Regus celebrates 25 years in Portugal with the opening of a brandnew office complex in Quinta do Lago in November, its first in the Algarve

Located on Europe’s most south-westerly tip, the Algarve’s balmy Mediterranean climate, spectacular beaches and glut of championship golf courses has made it one of Europe’s premier leisure destinations. However, it’s also a popular spot for the second home market and attracts a wealth of business executives and companies looking for a flexible base in Portugal.

This will be our first location in the Algarve, says Jorge Valdeira, the country manager for Portugal. "We chose it for several reasons. Its almost equidistant between Lisbon and Seville, two major locations for us, and its around a 15-minute drive from Faro airport, which has good connections throughout Europe. Quinta do Lagos is a popular tourist area with great beaches, restaurants and a good nightlife, plus its close to where many of our potential customers are based.

This year, Regus celebrates 25 years in Portugal with serviced offices across Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Vila Nova de Gaia and Oeiras. As one of the leading providers of global workspaces, Regus offers an extensive network of flexible working, coworking and meeting space, enabling executives, entrepreneurs and companies to scale up or scale down without the need for pricey setup costs or additional investment. The brand new Quinta do Lago complex will become the countrys 14th location when it opens in November.

Regus in Porto

A high-end gated community, holiday and golf resort, Quinta do Lago is not an immediately obvious choice for a state-of-the-art business centre. However, Regus UK recently opened a centre in the charming riverside town of Henley-on-Thames, as it identified a growing demand for flexible workspace in the small but affluent area. Quinta do Lagos prestige as a top-rated holiday, golfing and second home destination makes it a prime location for Regus’ first complex in the Algarve.

“Our service will be available for local businesses, but at the same time well be able to offer flexible working spaces to our many international clients who visit so they can combine leisure and business when they visit,” explains Valdeira. “Many people have second houses in the Algarve and often stay two or three months each year, so our flexible workspace could be an important service for them.”

While there are few international companies in the Algarve, many domestic industries have regional offices here, including banks, realestate, finance and insurance companies. The area also attracts a number of high-wealth sports players and coaches. “We have many football agents and football players who have houses in the Algarve, and Formula One drivers like Quinto do Lagos as a base as its a very premium location,” says Valdeira.

“The Algarve draws visitors all year round, not just during the summer, so we expect it to attract year-round business,” he continues. “Some leisure visitors may use the centre once or twice during their holidays for business meetings or Skype calls.”

The building is currently under construction near the five-star Conrad Algarve Hotel and will form part of an open-air shopping centre. Covering an area of 1,000 square metres, the new Regus centre will be able to accommodate around 100 companies across two floors with meeting rooms, coworking space and business lounges on the ground floor, while the upper floor will feature private offices and a large meeting room. “One of our unique features will be offices with private balconies,” explains Valdeira. “We have lots of sunshine here in the Algarve and people come to expect balconies in their offices, so its a nice extra to offer our clients.”
